Established in 2019 by the organisers of the Kuala Lumpur Cup and the AirAsia KL Junior League, the Penang Cup is a youth football development tournament targeted at teams based in Penang and across Malaysia
Held over 4 days from 26 to 29 July 2020, the Penang Cup will be open to 6 age groups: Under 8 (7-a-side), Under 10 (7-a-side), Under 12 (9-a-side), Under 14 (11-a-side), Under 16 (11-a-side) and Under 18 (11-a-side).
Each age group will feature Group Stage matches on Sunday 26 July and Monday 27 July followed by Knockout Stage/Play Off matches on Tuesday 28 July and Wednesday 29 July.
Formats
Teams will play in the following formats based on age group:
Under 8 & Under 10
- Team numbers: 7-a-side
- Squad size: 12 players
- Match time: 2 x 20 minutes
- Offside rule: No offsides
- Draw in knockout stages: Matches go straight to penalty shootout
- Schedule: Sunday, Monday: group stage matches; Tuesday, Wednesday: knockout stage matches
Under 12
- Team numbers: 9-a-side
- Squad size: 14 players
- Match time: 2 x 25 minutes
- Offside rule: Offside rule used
- Draw in knockout stages: Matches go straight to penalty shootout
- Schedule: Sunday, Monday: group stage matches; Tuesday, Wednesday: knockout stage matches
Under 14, Under 16 & Under 18
- Team numbers: 11-a-side
- Squad size: 18 players
- Match time: 2 x 25 minutes
- Offside rule: Offside rule used
- Draw in knockout stages: Matches go straight to penalty shootout
- Schedule: Sunday, Monday: group stage matches; Tuesday, Wednesday: knockout stage matches
PRIZES
Medals will be awarded to teams in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Trophies will be given to champions of all competitions. Additionally, Cup champions of each age group will receive a FREE entry to the Kuala Lumpur Cup 2021
All participants will receive a Penang Cup 2020 e-certificate.
